Supermodel Angie Harmon plays forensic expert Ryan McBride on "Baywatch Nights." McBride is also the gorgeous and sultry co-owner of the Buchannon and McBride detective agency. Last season, Hasselhoff and "Baywatch Nights" executive producers were in the midst of conducting a nationwide search to cast the role of McBride when, by chance, Hasselhoff met Harmon on a cross-country flight. Hasselhoff, who was himself discovered on an airplane for the lead of "Knight Rider" by then-NBC head Brandon Tartikoff, thought Harmon would be perfect for the female lead. Harmon wasn't so sure. "It's a real life Cinderella story. Acting had been my dream since I was a kid, but this was my first audition for a television series. I didn't want to blow it." Her fears were unfounded. After reading for Hasselhoff and the other executive producers and casting agents, the 22-year-old Texas beauty was hired. A newcomer to acting, Harmon is no stranger to the camera. She has several national commercials to her credit including a GEO Metro spot for director Jake Scott. Harmon comes by her beauty naturally. Both her parents were models, and Harmon has been modelling since she was a baby. "I hit that awkward stage around six or seven -- gangly and uncoordinated. I had two huge front teeth. My nickname was `Mako Shark.' Fortunately, it didn't last forever. I got braces and grew into my height by Junior High." At age 15, Harmon beat out 63,000 girls to win Seventeen magazine's cover girl of the year award. She flew to New York for her first national photo shoot and was awarded several prizes including a brand new car. "It sat in my driveway for a year, because I wasn't old enough to have a license." After graduating from high school, Harmon settled in New York where she began a highly successful modelling career which took her all around the world. She has graced the pages of Vogue, Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, GQ, Esquire, and numerous European fashion magazines. Her charismatic beauty and elegant style has captured the attention of such high fashion designers as Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Georgio Armani, Issac Mizrahi, and Rifat Ozbek in runway shows in Paris, Milan and New York. Since moving to Los Angeles, Harmon has been studying with an acting coach and eventually hopes to do more comedy. "I love to make people laugh. That's what I admire most about `Ryan McBride,' she's witty -- lots of quick, funny one-liners." A nature lover, Harmon has dreams of establishing a children's ranch in West Texas to give underprivileged city youth an outdoor experience. "I would like for all children to be able to connect with nature at an early age." Harmon is an avid Dallas Cowboy fan who had season passes in high school and has been known to fly cross-country to see her team play. She currently resides in the Hollywood Hills with her dog "Dakota," three cats "Mogolie," "Madeleine," and "Spooky," and a goldfish named "Hercules." Angie Harmon Joins NBC's Emmy Award-Winning 'Law & Order' as Assistant D.A. Abbie Carmichael PASADENA, Calif., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Angie Harmon (C-16, Baywatch Nights) joins the cast of Studios USA Television's and Wolf Films' Emmy Award-winning drama series ``Law & Order'' as Assistant D.A. Abbie Carmichael, it was announced today by Dick Wolf, creator and executive producer. ``Law & Order,'' the longest-running drama series on network television, won the 1997 Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series and begins its ninth season on NBC (Wednesdays, 10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) this fall. Harmon replaces Carey Lowell, who portrayed A.D.A. Jamie Ross for the past two seasons. In her new role, Harmon plays Abbie Carmichael, the ambitious and independent assistant to executive A.D.A. Jack McCoy (SamWaterston), whose success in the Special Narcotics Prosecutor's Office placed her on the fast track with District Attorney Adam Schiff (Steven Hill). Harmon, a native of Dallas, Texas, starred last season in the ABC drama series ``C-16'' with D.B. Sweeney and Eric Roberts, and previously in the syndicated drama ``Baywatch Nights.'' She began her career as a top fashion model, and at the age of 15, Harmon beat 63,000 girls to win the national cover girl contest for Seventeen Magazine. Her subsequent modeling credits include Vogue, Cosmopolitan, GQ, Esquire and Harper's Bazaar. ``The part of the 'second chair' has been a pivotal role on the series, first with Richard Brooks as Paul Robinette, followed by Jill Hennessy as Claire Kincaid and Carey Lowell as Jamie Ross,'' Wolf said. ``Angie will bring a strong presence to the character of Abbie Carmichael, who has impeccable academic and professional credentials, and will consistently challenge McCoy's authority.'' The Roles She Played. Ryan McBride (1995-1997) Always the scientist...always looking for details. Her focus this year is hands on...the computer, the phone, the internet...whatever it takes to close the gaps between what they know and what they don't. This isn't to say that her emotions and personality won't get involved, because that's something that will never change in Ryan. We'll continually try to guess if, deep in her heart, she carries a torch for Mitch. Amanda Reardon (1997) Angie Harmon moved from the popular but shortlived syndicated show "Baywatch Nights" when it ended, to starring with Eric Roberts and D.B. Sweeney in a new ABC-TV series, "C-16." In the show, Angie portrays Amanda Reardon, a rookie team-member of the FBI's top crime solving unit...C-16. Reardon, only child of a rich Southern family nevertheless seems to understand human nature and the frailties that come with it. Having attained a top-notch degree in psychology, and being highly competitive, Reardon is intent on proving herself to the Bureau, even if it means alienating her parents in the meantime. Abbie Carmichael (1998-?) In her new role, Harmon plays Abbie Carmichael, the ambitious and independent assistant to executive A.D.A. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston), whose success in the Special Narcotics Prosecutor's Office placed her on the fast track with District Attorney Adam Schiff (Steven Hill). ``The part of the 'second chair' has been a pivotal role on the series, first with Richard Brooks as Paul Robinette, followed by Jill Hennessy as Claire Kincaid and Carey Lowell as Jamie Ross,'' Wolf said. ``Angie will bring a strong presence to the character of Abbie Carmichael, who has impeccable academic and professional. credentials, and will consistently challenge McCoy's authority.'' | ||||||||||||||||
